Minions and Monsters delivers exactly what you would expect from the beloved, babbling yellow sidekicks, sticking closely to a very familiar formula.
While it might not reinvent the wheel of animated comedy, it doesn't really need to. The slapstick chaos, slapdash gadgetry, and goofy charm that made the franchise a global juggernaut are front and centre, ensuring the young members of the audience will be thoroughly entertained from start to finish.

However, what sets this particular adventure apart is its surprising layer of nostalgia. The film frequently acts as a clever homage to cinema, packing in a treasure trove of classic monster movie tropes, vintage sci-fi nods, and plenty of sharp references that only mum and dad will get. It’s always a welcome bonus when a family film tosses a lifeline of inside jokes to the adults in the room, making the viewing experience genuinely enjoyable across generations rather than just a babysitting tool.
Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges and a host of other famous names lend their voices and are all clearly having a good time.

Ultimately, the movie knows exactly what it is and doesn't demand too much from its audience. Fast-paced, visually vibrant, and consistently amusing, it’s a fun 90 minutes that flies by before you know it. It might not be a flawless cinematic masterpiece, but it hits all the right notes for a solid family film. Banana!
